Risk and Driving

Risk and Driving

By Tariq Musaji DSA ADI

Introduction.

Humans have always taken risk to explore new ideas and ventures. Indeed, successful businessmen such as Gates and Branson took risks in their business venture. However, I wish to correlate risk with driving. In this article I am going to argue why drivers engage into reckless driving and whether the human gene is a contributing factor? If you unfortunately get into a car crash and end up with a broken down car, then don’t worry because it was pretty easy to sell my car for cash, even without it being able to turn on.

Here are a few Safety Tips for Driving

How coaching raises awareness and builds on responsibility

How coaching raises awareness and builds on responsibility

By Tariq Musaji DSA ADI

Introduction.

The term coaching is the latest phenomenon to enter the driver training industry. This has largely come about through the Hermes project which was EU funded. The whole essence of coaching is to transfer ownership of learning from the instructor to the pupil. The empowering of pupil to think for themselves for their actions on the road. In this article, I shall be comparing, contrasting and recommending the most effective method to reducing road traffic collisions on our roads amongst the under twenty five year olds.

Why the sandwich method of giving feedback is dead!

Why the sandwich method of giving feedback is dead!

By Tariq Musaji DSA ADI

Introduction.

Feedback is similar to an analogy to the little turns of the steering wheel a driver makes when driving on a straight road. A major change of intervention is only needed when we, as road safety practitioners need to grab the wheel to prevent a major catastrophe. For many years we were accustomed to delivering the sandwich method of giving feedback. However, our industry is now undergoing a major change. With the Check test now being replaced by the standards check, we need to look out how we give feedback to our pupils.

This article serves to offer a normative prescription as to how I see feedback needs to be delivered. I personally believe that the days of the sandwich method are now over with the introduction of coaching or client centred learning as the DSA likes to call it.

An instructor with a different approach…………

Tariq is no ordinary driving instructor. Wickford based in Essex, he has over the past 2 years been campaigning to get some of the road sings changed. He runs his own company, Farrah Driver Training ltd. As an advanced driver and coach, I was bemused by the amount of road signs anomalies that were around in my local area. My initial reaction was to get in touch with Department for transport. The response I got was that it was up to individual council’s discretion as to how they went about putting up the road signs.
